The news broke when Sheldon was featured in a special Move to Calgary pullout in the Calgary Herald. Inside the article, Sheldon dishes on why he chose to make his home in this big, small town. Besides WAX of course.

It wasn’t quite lucky seven, but it was another successful Anvil Awards show for WAX. In the end we took home six Anvils and four Merits, which recognized work for Honda, Enbridge, Calgary Society for Persons with Disabilities, Calgary International Film Festival and the world’s smallest business card for a small business accountant. Throughout the night WAXers performed various dares given to them at the event, which included Account Coordinator, Katie Knoll doing her best Angelina Jolie impression on stage. Congratulations to all 2012 Anvil award winners.

Cannes has it all figured out: get some not-so-young lions to teach the cubs how it’s done. Last year Joe judged Applied Arts and this year he moved on to the Young Lions—one of the biggest, most prestigious competitions for Creatives under the age of 28. Teams of two were given a brief and then had just 24 hours to ideate and execute an award-winning ad. The grand prize? An all expenses paid trip to Cannes to represent Canada in the official Cannes Young Lions competition. Not too shabby.

Joe was joined by an all-star cast of judges: Marie-Elaine Benoit, CD, Sid Lee; Marc Fortin, VP & CD, LG2; Lisa Greenberg, CD, Leo Burnett; Barbara Jacques, CD, Cossette; Brian Sheppard, EVP & co-ECD, Saatchi & Saatchi Canada.

First there was PDN, then Applied Arts, and now Lürzer’s Archive Special 200 Best Ad Photographers worldwide. This photograph was selected from over 10,000 submissions by 860 photographers in 56 countries. Photographer Peter Leverman, along with our design director Monique Gamache, captured this ethereal image showcasing Enbridge’s support of Alberta Ballet, just one of the many arts and cultural organizations that Enbridge supports through its community investment programs.

Measuring just 1.0”x 0.6” and printed letterpress on 220-pound paper, it’s designed simply and elegantly. “I just wanted to see how small I could make the type before it became illegible” says WAX designer Hans Thiessen. Featured on beastpieces.com, adcstudio.blogspot, davidairey.com, imjustcreative.tumbler.com and huffingtonpost.com, this business card is hard to forget. Now, to find that application for the Guinness Book of World Records.

What do WAX and TEDx have in common? Well aside from the fact that each rocks the letter ‘x’, we are both in the business of ideas. For 2012, TEDxYYC asked if we could help them spread the word about this year’s event. The big idea: inspiring connections. So we gathered our hammers, some nails, string, and embraced our inner DIYer. And voilà! Posters and guerilla tactics designed to create some buzz about TEDx.

Ad Rodeo recently held its annual Meet the Judges event, and this year’s group were an exceptional bunch: Jeff Harrison from Rethink, Anthony Chelvanathan from Leo Burnett, Carla Madden from CP+B, Hjalti Karlsson from karlssonwilker and Steve Koch from SapientNitro. While the work shared by the judges was beyond impressive, the highlights for us were discovering Carla is one of the writers behind those cheeky Vitamin Water labels, and Hjalti’s hilarious story of becoming an instant celeb in Serbia. We left inspired. And a bit jealous.

Here is Carla Madden’s (@lifelongnomad) pic of some eager WAXers up front enjoying the talks.
